Adults War & Children Die

Adults War & Children Die

How did this world go so awry,

Where adults war, and children die.

We pick our sides, but in the sky,

The thunder cracks, the missiles fly.

Politicians now don’t try to mend,

They speak their words, enact revenge.

We’ve seen such things, again and again.

More war, more death, more us and them.

I can’t write this poem; I’m not that smart.

My safety brought by blood, in part.

And no words of mine will fix the start,

Or bring back life, or unbreak hearts.

So we wait and watch as babies cry.

We pray this pain will pass us by.

And wonder how, and wonder well,

While adults war, and children die.
